Dear Students, Parents, and Community Members:
I am truly humbled and honored to serve as Principal of Union Middle School for the 2015-2016 school year. I extend my sincere thanks for sharing your children with us this year. I look forward to serving with a highly qualified staff and excellent students to provide the best educational program possible.
I am a graduate of Union High School, and I received my Bachelor of Science degree from Mississippi State University. I hold a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Arkansas State University. Prior to being named Middle School Principal, I taught in the science department at the high school level here in the Union Public School District. I had great success in that capacity, and I look forward to carrying on that record of success at the middle school.
I am very passionate about education and students, and I know that we (staff, parents, and community) can work together to provide a rich educational experience that will continue to make our schools even better than they already are. I am very excited to give back to the kids and the community and I look forward to building on the already established tradition of excellence.
We want to work toward a school environment that produces college and career ready young people when they leave us. At the middle school, we'll create a positive and prideful school culture with a focus on college or career readiness. We want our students to be able to think and reason through complex situations as we know they will need to do that in college or in the workforce when they leave us. We'll create a college going culture in which college is talked about and encouraged. Additionally, we'll lay the groundwork for ACT preparation that will be built upon at the high school as students move forward. I believe that all students have the potential to learn and grow and should be provided with high expectations to assist in that process. I believe that we must continue to provide an educational program that is academically challenging and engages each student by linking the curriculum to previous knowledge and experiences.
Furthermore, I commit to provide students with a safe, consistent environment that focuses on positive behavior.
Parents, teachers, support staff, and administration all have an important role to facilitate and encourage our children to take charge of their educations by becoming active learners. Parents, I encourage you to visit your child's school. Sit in the classroom. Observe what is going on.
This year at Union Middle School we will be focusing on the 7 habits of effective leaders. We believe that leaders display the following habits:
1) Be proactive
2) Begin with the End in Mind
3) Put First Things First
4) Think Win-Win
5) Seek First to Understand, Then to be Understood
7) Sharpen the Saw
Let's have a great year and Go Jackets!
